The show has also confirmed that former Idol winner Carrie Underwood will have the honour of having one of her recordings, a cover of Motley Crüe's "Home Sweet Home", played as "the new farewell song" for American Idol.

Carrie's remake of Mötley Crüe's "Home Sweet Home" will be the new farewell song played on the weekly results show after a contestant gets the bad news that he or she has been sent home.

Other songs played during the contestants' farewell include Daniel Powter's "Bad Day," Ruben Studdard's rendition of "Celebrate Me Home," and Daughtry's "Home."

Carrie's "Home Sweet Home" will debut on "Idol"'s elimination show this Wednesday. The song will be available for download through iTunes until March 16 and through retailers after that.

Season 8 of the popular singing competition will also feature performances by Kanye West and another former Idol winner Kelly Clarkson.

Too bad Michael wasn't on the show! Would have been good publicity for him.
