New York - Three people were arrested and six injured Saturday, after a stampede broke out at auditions for cycle 13 of America's Next Top Model.
Thousands were gathered outside Park Central Hotel, some all night long, for a chance to try out for former supermodel Tyra Banks' hit reality show.
The show's creator Tyra Banks and co-executive producer Tom Mok issued a joint statement late Sunday, saying: "We are concerned by the events that occurred Saturday afternoon in the vicinity of the New York City casting call for the next cycle of 'America's Next Top Model.' At this time, we still don't know all the details of what happened or what triggered the incident. We appreciate the efforts of the NYPD and will assist them in any way possible in this matter."
Mayor Bloomberg urged future event organizers to advise the NYPD of their plans before things get out of control.

There's a "fierce" joke in there somewhere, but I'm surprised that something like this hasn't happened earlier; if not with ANTM, then with some of the other reality show castings/

we live in an insane culture when some people would "even kill" just to get on a TV show, weird stuff.....

A definite sign of the times. Look for more long lines everywhere, not just for casting calls/auditions but also for 'Going-out-of-Business' Sales, Job Fairs and Food Pantry lines. Just last Christmas a Wal-mart Security worker was trampled to death by shoppers rushing when the store doors were opened, thanks to negligence on the part of Wal-mart. All they could see was sales going through the roof, not the safety of the people in line.

Now, now azzay, don't lump all of us in with the fame-hungry females of this world. ;) You are right however, in that women who crave fame and glory, will do just about anything to get it - and it doesn't stop there - what about stage mothers - they're the worst lot of all!
I used to go out with a guy in the ball room dancing crowd - and it used to amaze me when I watched the vitriol between the dancers (both men and women.)
They were so fiercely competitive that nasty things happened often - such as ruining someone else's dance costume, just before competitions, or purposely tripping another couple when they were sharing a dance floor.
As for being a model, it's overrated - I'd still want to eat many things that are not allowed to them - such as my Breyer's Rocky Road icecream! ;)
