Andy Rooney Leaving 60 Minutes after 32 Years
Andy Rooney is leaving his regular slot on CBS' 60 Minutes, where he has appeared since 1978. Andy Rooney's last show is on Sunday, October 2. He has hosted "A Few Minutes with Andy Rooney", which replaced "Point/Counterpoint".
Andy Rooney has worked for CBS since 1948.
Andy Rooney, 92, is backing down from a previous pledge to appear on TV until he died. Sunday's broadcast will mark Rooney's 1097th appearance on 60 Minutes. Despite his tendency toward racist and homophobic remarks, CBS found that it basically needed Rooney to keep 60 Minutes' ratings up.
"There’s nobody like Andy and there never will be," said Jeff Fager, CBS News chairman and 60 executive producer. "He’ll hate hearing this, but he’s an American original. His contributions to 60 Minutes are immeasurable; he’s also a great friend."

That's astonishing isn't it. He had his boots on the ground like Ernie Pyle in WWII and Walter Cronkite. They truly don't make them like that anymore--well, Anderson Cooper maybe.
