Early Friday estimates for Angels & Demons is $16 million. Clearly, it won't be the hit that The Da Vinci Code was in 2006. It also doesn't help being released a week after Star Trek. Trek's early Friday estimate is $12.2 million. It will be a close race between both movies.Wolverine is in third with $4.2 million.
UPDATE #1 - Friday box office is $16.5 million. Still, nothing impressive.
UPDATE #2 - Early Saturday estimates: Angels & Demons grossed $19 million. Star Trek grossed $18 million. It's a tight race.
UPDATE #3 - Estimated Weekend Box Office: $48 million. Star Trek was close behind with $43 million.

It's a pity that the filmmakers has taken too much liberty in changing the book's contents. The film I saw has lost quite a bit of the charm, thrill and suspense that pushed me to finish the book in one weekend. Ayelet Zurer's Vittoria is quite a contrast to the book's Vittoria and a disappointment, coming off as pretty dull and lacking the energy, excitement, and spirit I was expecting to see. There's zilch chemistry between her and Professor Langdon's characters. As usual, Tom Hanks is great, but it's Ewan McGreggor's Carmelengo who is phenomenally captivating.... charming on the outside and very unpredictable within. It's a pity that the scenes involving the exposure of the anti-matter from the helicopter have cut off the Professor's participation. Those scenes in the book gave me the most suspenseful and thrilling moments to capture.
Anyway, the film is still worth paying the normal price of a tix to see it in the theater.

I really wish they would not have cut the speech the carmelengo speech so short and with out the cameras when he was talking about how the church is like a check for science telling them to understand things and slow down..etc. I thought McGreggor was excelent as the carmelengo and would have loved to see the speech. Also I wish they wouldnt have changes things that they didnt need to, such as the 4th Cardinal at the fountain why did you need to change that? You could have kept that the same and had the pope at the end that Brown had. Also I really wish they would not ave cut out the director from CERN he played a big role in the book and his charactor was replaced. I am just so disapointed. I can understand having to cut certain things for time, but dont change things like that. Oh and what happened to the last brand that went on the Carmelengo they changed it! What was the point of that how did that save time or expoain things better? Just very disapointed

ditto, I completely agree with you Erich. I hated how they changed the ending, the 4th cardinals death, vittorias character, completely changed Dr. Vettra into some random dude and his death not even w/ the Illuminati brand, the elimination of Kohler, the lack of tie that the Pope was the Carmelengo's father, AND why on earth did they need to change everyone's name??? What was the point?!
