Poms triumph on Australia Day at Big Day Out
Britain's best bands triumphed on Australia Day at Melbourne's Big Day Out festival yesterday (January 26). Over 40,000 music fans (most clothed in Australia flags) battled 40 degree heat to revel in the finest music from around the world at Flemington Racecourse.
The most popular performance of the day was by the Arctic Monkeys, who showcased 4 new songs. Coming on stage following Aussie favourites The Living End as the sun was setting, Alex and co. stole the show with awesome renditions of I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor and Brianstorm. The only notable exclusion from the set list was Mardy Bum.
Turner, who is sporting a straggly-mop haircut, was unusually chatty with the sunburnt crowd, to the point of ensuring fans shoe laces were tied up before Dancing Shoes. Typically odd behaviour from the Arctic's included the band's drumskin slogan - "Agile Beast", and Turner twice describing the crowd's appearance as "Dangerous".
A mass exit ensued after the Arctic Monkeys closed their set, with the younger audience choosing to watch English dance favourites The Prodigy, over rock legend Neil Young. Earlier in the day, crowds swarmed to one of the smaller stages to hear English duo, the Ting Tings.
The Arctic Monkeys played:
'Da Frame 2R'
'This House Is A Circus'
'Still Take You Home'
'The View From The Afternoon'
'Dancing Shoes'
'Dangerous Animals'
'From The Ritz To The Rubble'
'I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor'
'Pretty Visitors'
'Brianstorm'
'When The Sun Goes Down'
'Leave Before The Lights Come On'
'Go-Kart'
'Crying Lightning'
'Fluorescent Adolescent'
'Do Me A Favour'
'Red Right Hand'
'If You Were There, Beware'

The Big Day Out starts in New Zealand every year and I was fortunate enough to catch AM twice in two days here in Auckland

As my photos on here show, I was no where near the front for their Melb BDO gig, but god were they good!!
I didn't manage to stay for all of their set either, due to hurting my knee during the mosh moments before their set, but I'm glad I got to see them!

It was a great time in Rio two years ago. The show was cool, but the guys were in the automatic mode.
