White Mountains, NH (March 24, 2009) - The Believe in Books Literacy Foundation (BIBLF) was out on the road in March celebrating Dr. Seuss's birthday with the Cat in the Hat, visiting area preschools and presenting the gift of a new book to over 1,200 children as part of their "Books in Character" Outreach Reading Program.

During each outing a larger-than-life storybook character visits the children to excite them about reading and form a positive connection with books. A volunteer storyteller then shares a few of the character's stories with the class. Finally, each child is given their very own book to take home to help promote future reading with their family. BIBLF visits each preschool as often as funds allow with a new character, story, and variety of books to keep encouraging a love of books and reading that has proven essential to a child's future success in school and life in general.

The Believe in Books Literacy Foundation now brings their Books in Character Program to 52 preschools throughout N.H. and Western ME. In the four years since the inception of the program, BIBLF has given out over 30,000 books and helped encourage the healthy development of early literacy skills in hundreds of the region's households. States BIBLF's Executive Director Mr. A.O. Lucy "We are happy to bring our outreach program to these area schools and Head Start Programs. We hope that with increased support we may continue bringing our literacy programs to the schools we currently serve and to even more areas in need."

Much needed sponsorships and donations allow the BIBLF to continue to reach children in preschools throughout the area and expose, encourage and excite them to the joys of reading.

The Believe in Books Literacy Foundation, known best for their Polar Express fundraising event, is a North Country nonprofit 501 (c) 3 organization supported by volunteers and contributors from the communities they serve.
