Ashley Graham: Model Speaks After Lane Bryant Commercial Ban
Ashley Graham, the Model in the Lane Bryant Commercial Speaks After Ad Controversy
Ashley Graham, the plus-sized model who is in the Lane Bryant commercial that was reportedly banned from airing on ABC and Fox, spoke out on Thursday about the situation saying:
"The Victoria's Secret girls can flaunt around their panties all day long. But when there's a bigger woman with a little bit extra, they snipped it out immediately."
Lane Bryant spoke out on their blog Inside Curve saying that ABC and Fox took the matter of defining beauty in to their own hands and decided not to air their commercial (video below). Lane Bryant wanted the commercial to air during Dancing With The Stars on ABC and stated that they refused, while Fox wanted edits to be made and only decided to air the ad during the final 10 minutes of American Idol after Bryant said they would pull the ad.
Lane Bryant did release the advertising standards for ABC but the network did not give a reason for the decision on why it would not air the ad.
Lane Bryant stated on their blog that they knew the ad was sexy, but did not think it was any more sexy than some of the ads already aired on those networks, or even some of the material on the TV shows they air. They compared their ad to Victoria's Secret and Playtex and said that if those companies can run their ads anytime they wish from 9pm to 10pm, then why does Lane Bryant only get the offer of the last 10 minutes of that time slot?
Watch the Lane Bryant ad below? Do you think it's too sexy?

I do not think that the Lane Bryant ad is too racy. If you want to see racy ads or ads that shouldnt be on tv check out the Victoria Secret ads. There is a double standard going on here. It's okay to air a Victoria Secret ad (or heck even devote a whole hour on tv to a Victoria Secret Fashion Show) at any time day or night or any channel pretty much. But it's not okay apparently to show a REAL woman in an ad on tv. Less clothes are worn by the dancers on Dancing With The Stars and on other shows. I guess they would rather young girls look up to stick figures than real woman. They would rather young girls have low self esteem and feel bad about what they look like and even do silly stuff like stave themselves or throw up just to look like what they see on tv and in ads. Than to see a woman that looks more like the everyday woman and better to look up to and try to be like.

As far as I am concerned, Ashley Graham is at this moment the most beautiful woman in the world. Stunning, simply stunning!

There is nothing wrong with that commercial! Fox & ABC should be ashamed of your actions. This is what the majority of women in the world look like! Get over yourselves Fox & ABC... If you air one more commercial that has Victoria's Secret models in it, Ashley GRAMHAM should sue and let me tell you, most of the women in America would be out side the courtroom cheering her on.

Nothing wrong with the commercial, just something that is always wrong with TV people who are too scared to admit they are wrong. TV has been running scared since the Janet Jackson incident, and has always been afraid to take a risk. Ashley Graham is worth taking a chance over, and I can't wait to see more of her on TV.

I think Victoria Secret is scared of natural women, now Lane Bryant gave them something to run from. There is nothing wrong with commercial and Lane Bryant used natural beauty instead of using a freakishly "skinnny model". If you don't like the commercial then turn the channel or better yet just turn off your tv.. Ashley Graham you go girl, show America what a real women looks like..

Too much cleavage?!?!? Too racy!?!?!? What are they talking about! I think that Fox and ABC are just scared to show a real woman, and what she actually looks like. I don't understand how they can say she is showing too much cleavage when Pamela Anderson would run around in less then a bikiki and it would be alright to show THAT on tv. Just because Ashley doesn't have a skinny waist, and twiggy legs shouldn't mean they can ban the commercial. SHAME ON YOU FOX AND ABC. As for Ashley, you keep doing what your doing, you look great!!

I don’t understand ABC and Fox. There is nothing wrong with the commercial and there is absolutely nothing wrong with Ashley. On the other hand – all those skinny models looks even more skinny compared with Ashley – and that might be a problem (for some people).I don’t know how the US standard for models and commercials is, but where I am from (Denmark) there is absolutely nothing wrong and nothing to worry about. And ... Ashley is a very beautyful woman.

Everyone that doesn't want this airing on TV is just jealous that they're not as beautiful as she is.

Reality check... everyone has skin. All the commercial is showing is skin. Let's stop being afraid of ourselves and be proud of the exterior of our bodies.

The censorship is pathetic - its just the greedy people in the TV industry who fears the young superficial kids are going to think she's fat. When in facts insulting that call her a plus size model - she looks gorgeous and healthy. One of the few normal looking women on TV.

She looks far too busty and her hips look larger than a size 14/16

Well, maybe the American public is accustomed to seeing thin women with small busts at the 8:00 pm hour but are not ready to see "gifted women" with full breasts? Our culture seems to reward women for being thin and punish plus size women. Why this has happened over the years I don't know. Jane Mansfield and Marilyn Monroe were both busty women and considered the most beautiful of their time. Now, its paris Hilton and Nicole Richie who both are paper thin. Are we promoting anorexia and bulimia among our young women?

The commerical is not too racy, and I find the networks' responses to be childish. However, what comes around in society seems to go around. Before the only standard of beauty was the prototype of a Marilyn Monroe, now it is the exact opposite. Real women come in different shapes and sizes, but each era chooses its standard. Women should not apologize for being curvy, but thin women should not be expected to apologize for being thin either.
