Ask a question, fool for once. Never ask, fool forever
I once read an article which mentioned the title of this post. Since then, I have been trying to follow this rule.
Ever wondered whether or not to ask a question, or questions? Afraid being called stupid or foolish?
Thinkingback, I have been a fool for uncountable times. Undeniably, practisingthis phrase is easier to say than to do. People tend to avoid fromasking stupid questions and at the same time, protecting his or herpride as to not be branded as ‘stupid’. But who are the ones to define‘stupid questions’? Everyone’s knowledge is of different area, as wellas the use of memory.
Honestly, sometimes, I prefer not to askif I know that the person I am dealing with will say something bad oreven laughing out loud when I ask. This may be an excuse but I wouldrather ask other people or seek for the answer myself.
Atwork, I react differently. I listen carefully and jot down the thingswhich I do not understand. I will then proceed to gather informationand seek for the answer myself. In order to get more details, I willthen ask. I believe that this is a good way in preparing myself to dealwith something which I do not know rather than asking questionsblatantly or even pretending to be jack of all trades.
How todeal with whether to ask or not to ask is not that important as long aswe have the initiative to find out. Of course, there are a lot offactors involve a simple thing like in this case, asking a question;factors such as timing, priority, people and etc. However, it willnever be too late to ask but be a fool forever if you never ask.
