Asteroids Movie. Seriously.

Universal Studios won a fierce bidding war to secure the rights to make an Asteroids movie. Yeah. Asteroids. The video game.

I guess Hollywood felt that there just weren't enough two-dimensional studio flicks based on video games out there.

My only question for them is, "When that crack cocaine you obviously just smoked first hits your brain, what does it feel like?"

Couldn't Universal -- who won that four-way bidding scrum -- just make a movie about noble men and women tasked with blowing up rocks from space without needing a game to base it on?

"Oh, no! Asteroids! They're coming at us from all sides! Well, they're coming at us two-dimensionally in a circle! What do we do?!?!"
"Spin around and blast them! If they get too close, jet forward a bit!"

Jeez.

In level one, asteroid belt part of the starfox SNES game. I blew up this ship that was shooting at me and this blue guy had to eject or be killed along with his ship.

This is an arcade game that my Uncle Dan has had since the 80's..
I remember requiring to stand on a bench to play it. :)
Interested to see the movie and how that would play out..

what would the storyline be ? ?
