Auspicious couples tie the knot in Beijing

Tens of thousands of couples tied the knot in the Chinese capital yesterday on a date that would have been "auspicious" even without the Olympic Games.

We visit a make-shift marriage registration office in Beijing that was built to cater to unexpected numbers. Although there was a brief power cut, 2,400 couples did finally manage to get hitched in the city centre.

The Ministry of Civil Affairs estimate 100,000 couples will have got married throughout China.
