Avril Lavigne - "Sk8er Boi" Live on May 28, 2011 at Rays Concert

Avril Lavigne cursed at the crowd at the beginning of her performance after a Tampa Bay Rays game at Tropicana Field Saturday night.

It’s reported that a technical problem caused her microphone to malfunction. When the crowd started to boo, Lavigne hurled a few F-bombs and other obscenities at the crowd, trying to explain that technical difficulties happen at a live performance--especially at a baseball field.

The embarrassed Tampa Bay Rays apologized to their fans in a statement on Sunday. Rays spokesman Rick Vaughn stated:

“The Rays demand profanity-free performances from all of our concert performers and we are extremely disappointed by the language used in last night’s show. It’s not consistent with the family-friendly atmosphere that Tropicana Field is known for.”

Speaking as a fan of Ms. Lavigne, with her permission, I'd like to quote another fan who was present for the concert, and who shared her comments on another website: "From a person that attended the event, as usual the newspaper (and press) has blown it out of proportion. I was in the front row at the concert, 50 feet from the stage. They gave her a dead mic and she continued to sing the entire song and even when they brought her another dead mic during the song. After she finished singing “WTH” with two dead mics she went off stage and they handed her another on that finally worked and she said “That’s what can happen when you do a live concert in a f*cking baseball stadium”. This was no profanity laced tirade as the newspapers are saying. One F bomb and that was it. And she apologized for letting that one word it slip out. So my question is why use the word obscenities when she only let one slip out?"
