NATIONAL STAMP OUT RUMORS WEEK
“Rumor Resistant” classrooms eligible for prizes!
TEMPE, AZ (June 9, 2008) – Thanks to the efforts of 12-year-old author Michael Moorehead, recent winner of the National 2008 Reader Views “Best Children’s Book” and recipient of an Arizona Book Publishing Association 2008 Glyph award for The Student From Zombie Island: Conquering the Rumor Monster, the National Special Events Registry deemed the last full week in September National Stamp Out Rumors Week to “Stop rumors in their tracks, whether they are innocently spread or intentionally started. Learn how untrue rumors can be personally and emotionally hurtful, physically damaging to one’s livelihood and can constitute verbal bullying.”
To observe Stamp Out Rumors Week, Moorehead urges classrooms around the globe to take the “Rumor Resistant Challenge.” Teachers whose classrooms agree to take the challenge receive a free print out of the Zombie Island Curriculum for grades two through four, an abridged PDF version of The Student From Zombie Island to use in the classroom during Stamp Out Rumors Week and 30 bookmarks. Classrooms that successfully complete the challenge are placed in a drawing for either 30 Rumor Resistant wristbands or a Zombie Island DVD that features Michael Moorehead discussing his book and answering the most often asked questions he receives from his fans. Fifty DVDs will be given away.
“Writing a humorous book that addresses rumors and fear was a good way to tackle gossip, but I thought getting a nationally observed week, and fun ‘Rumor Resistant Challenge’ that offered prizes would create even more awareness of the harm false rumors can do and offer even more motivation for children to stop rumors in their tracks,” explains Moorehead.
Complete contest info and participation rules are available at www.ZombieIslandBooks.com; click on “teachers.” The contest runs yearly August through October. Addntional information is available by calling 480-940-8182. Readers can also visit http://wnbnetworkwest.com/UnbeKidsHome.html to see a live Web-TV interview with Michael.
