Bachelor Jason Mesnick Final Rose Un-Proposal to Melissa Rycroft

The rumors that circulated on the web on the eve of the Bachelor 13 finale were true; Jason Mesnick did pick his bride-to-be only to dump her weeks later.  Mesnick proposed to finalist Melissa Rycroft in what many viewers saw as the most romantic proposal yet, only to un-propose six weeks later during the Bachelor: After the Rose Special.

"How in the world do you actually fall in love with two people at the same time?" Jason mused before the final rose ceremony.

If you're Jason, you get to have it both ways.

"I have found the one. I am in love, without a doubt," he told People recently of his fiancée. "I do see her as the one I want to marry and spend the rest of my life with."

But after one of the sweeter proposals in Bachelor history, replete with Melissa's shrieks of delight, the appearance of a tuxedoed Ty and a fully clothed celebratory dip in the pool...

Jason ultimately opted to break up with the 25-year-old sales rep from Dallas six weeks later during the After the Final Rose special, all monitored by host Chris Harrison, who always seems to be on the verge of laughing, no matter how dashed the hopes of the couple sitting in front of him.

Mesnick's un-proposal might have been a surprise to viewers who don't look for spoilers on the web but Rycroft was stoic.  When Resnick took back the ring on After the Rose he was every bit the coward.  He uttered a rather patheric, "You have every right to be irritated," to poor Melissa as she returned the 1.94-carat Neil Lane marquis-cut diamond engagement ring

And whether or not Melissa knew what was going to happen when she sat down in front of the cameras, she had to know the solemn, slightly nauseous look on Jason's face couldn't bode well for her matrimonial future.

"I came here to find somebody to spend the rest of my life with… and we're not right for each other," Jason said to the woman who won his heart not long ago.

"I don't know what you want me to say when you sit here and say that—because I don't believe you," Melissa protested. "I mean, I thought things were perfect!"

"You have every right to be irritated," Jason offered feebly as his ex-fiancée returned the 1.94-carat marquise-cut Neil Lane diamond he presented her with in New Zealand six weeks before.

Reality Steve predicted this very outcome on his blog in the days leading up to the Bechelor finale.  We now know that Reality Steve was on the money when he reported that Jason Mesnick would dump Melissa Rycroft to be with rival Molly Melaney

To add insult to injury for jilted lover Melissa Rycroft, Jason Mesnick quickly tried to patch things up with runner-up Molly Melaney.  Recalling the tearful goodbye between the two in the Bachelor 13 finale Mesnick declared that he had made a mistake and hoped Melaney could forgive him.

"So much of what I've been looking for, and I didn't even know it, was right in front of my face," Jason told her.

"I was hoping we could have a shot, see if we could go out for coffee or a drink and see where things...," he trailed off.

"I'm very confused," Molly said, haltingly, after the commercial break. "I think we still have a lot to talk about. But my feelings never went away. What I was feeling for you from the day I left New Zealand until today—those feelings never went away. I think we can…see where things go?"

"That's all I'm asking," Jason replied.

So Jason dumps Molly and picks Melissa in what is becoming a near traditional exercise in public humiliation known as the Bachelor final rose ceremony.  He then breaks with that sad tradition and publicly humiliates Melissa six weeks later by dumping her on the After the Rose. Resnick doesn't even wait for Melissa's tears to dry when he asks Molly to give him another shot.

Nice little love story the Bachelor 13 has going on there... maybe 13 really is an unlucky number, for Molly that is, since she's the one who could be stuck with Jason the jerk.  Melissa is lucky to have escaped from marrying him before it was too late!

Who wants a guy who would be so callous and selfish?  Jason Mesnick isn't worthy of being called the Bachelor, his version of the show should be renamed the Player

His first wife should count her blessings that she is no longer with this loser (who in my mind now deserves the hearbreak he got when Bachelorette DeAnna Pappas dumped him).

Learn more about the woman lucky enough to get away from Jason Mesnick the first time, Hilary Madison Wynn.

After this finale I'm with Reality Steve; Jason Mesnick is a jerk. I'll be tuning out for round 14.

I felt so bad for Melissa - she had every right to be angry and there is no way Molly should have taken him back - everyone lost respect for her when she leaned over and kissed him I think. barf...

It wasn't like he planned the whole thing. People have a change of heart all the time, and he never lied to Melissa.

Please alow me to say the follwing about the "LOSER" Mesnik" If the that entire show is a true story, I have to say, it was without any good taste. Involving a young child in a show like that is evil and should never be allowed by the director of the show.

I think Melissa is an honest girl, but the other B...... do not deserve to be mentioned. I can recall girls like her called" Slut or whatever. If she is real and not an actor, shame on you.

Jason himself is still a litel boy, who like to control his toys. Loving two girls at the same time, and tlling them almost the same story " you are the love of my life etc" ist sick. I will not watch this shw again and ABC should be ashamed too.

I think Molly is the better girl for Jason, he needs someone like her in his life she is pretty, well -mannered and sophisticated. Mellisa on the other hand her life seem to be complicated and not even her parents who she claims she loves so much supported her in  the program that was embarrasing, perhaps they know her well enough not to keep a relationship. She also has an attidude you can tell that in the way she speaks and I can see her speaking in a rough voice with Tye. So good luck Jason and Molly you are a great match.

Jason didn't like being hurt by Deanna but was perfectly okay with hurting Melissa.  What a dog!  Molly is the one making the mistake for taking him back and will find that out down the road.   Melissa is the winner here; she just doesn't know it yet.  She might be hurting now, but she will find someone who will make her happy.   Molly should have more respect for herself.  Who wants someone who can't make up his mind when it comes to such an important decision?  I wouldn't be surprised if he leaves Molly at the altar.  Ugh!!!

LOSER Jason!  What a fine example of a dad... Poor Tye...

I had only watched one bachelor series after the famous Trista and her Fireman and found the next show to be the end of interest for me.  Somehow, my sister got me involved with Jason, who is a great actor and from first appearances was sincere, cautious and sensitive.  He had me fooled up to the time when he could not hand out the last rose on a segment because he could not see "forever".  Well... looks like Jason had momentary blindness when he got to the end and chose Melissa.  He is so very fake and so very puppeted by the media and his contract and such a SMUCK!  But AMERICA what do we expect from a program and participants that allow themselves to be paraded like a group of pet pigs at a 4H county fair where the blue ribbon goes to the best porcine specimen and where the women allow themselves be be tried on for fit...like shopping for shoes... do I like the Italian leather or the man made uppers.  LOL  Good grief!  While if Melissa was actually hurt my heart goes out to her in that respect, but come on folks... all is fair in Love, war and undoubtedly showbiz. Just cut the CRAP!

Jason is really an ass who thinks he's a stallion. The show tried to portray him as Tom Hanks in "Sleepless in Seattle". How pathetic! I'll never watch the show again unless the bring on farm animals!
