Not to be their mouthpiece but I have to mention New Bamboo: Contemporary Japanese Masters, a sculpture show opening on Saturday, October 4 at the Japan Society in New York.

On his Textile Arts profile Nagakura Kenichi tells us "For me it is very important to use parts of a bamboo plant from above ground and parts from below ground. I like to add bamboo roots to some of my work as a reminder of the dark side of life."
The show runs from October 4th to October 11.

no, it is not used for art in pakistan. it is not indigenous to this country and is grown privately by those who love the plant. but imported bamboo is used extensively all over the country - to prop 'shamiana' which is a large tent used as topcover for holding wedding parties or any other large gathering of people in open spaces. it is also used for scaffolding purposes in the construction industry. of course this is only the tall hard dry woody part of the bamboo.
