The International Indian Film Academy awards weekend between the 6th-9th June 2008 will take place in the capital city of Thailand - Bangkok.

The four day prestigious event will be attended by many Bollywood stars, directors, producers, playback singers and technicians with the finale being the awards ceremony which is synonymous to the Oscars for Bollywood (the Indian film industry).

As well as the awards, events over the four days include the IIFA Film Festival, the FICCI-IIFA Golbal Business Forum, the IIFA World Premiere and an IIFA Fashion Extravaganza with India's top designers having their clothes modelled by Bollywood actors and actresses, including, Kareena Kapoor, Vivek Oberoi, Riteish Deshmukh and Ayesha Takia.

Amitabh Bachchan, a Bollywood icon, is the brand ambassador of the IIFA’s said, “IIFA entering its 9th year is a testament to its endurance and its importance in the industry. It gives me immense pleasure to be associated with a credible platform like IIFA which promotes Indian cinema globally. I am delighted that my forthcoming film, Sarkar Raj, is being premiered at the prestigious IIFA World Premier 2008, Bangkok and am eagerly looking forward to this splendid event.”

The nominations have been announced and the surprise of the 2008 awards is the omission of Aamir Khan’s critically acclaimed Taare Zameen Par in the list.Apparently this is due to Aamir Khan’s failure to fill in the nomination details for Taare Zameen Par for IIFA Awards and possibly his lack of interest to attend award ceremonies.

Reaching over 600 million people globally, makes the IIFA Awards the one of the most-watched events in the world.

The original story has the  list of  nominations and details of the four day event.
