Banning order over Famine song

A Rangers fan has been given two years probation and a football banning order for singing the 'Famine Song'.

William Walls, 20, was found guilty of breach of the peace, aggravated by religious and racial prejudice, at Kilmarnock District Court.

The offence was committed at Rangers' away match at Kilmarnock on 9 November.

Rangers have asked fans to not to sing the song, which refers to events that killed an estimated one million people in Ireland in the 1840s.

To give you some idea as to what this is about here are the words ... what do you think?

I often wonder where they would have been
If we hadn't have taken them in
Fed them and washed them
Thousands in Glasgow alone
From Ireland they came
Brought us nothing but trouble and shame
Well the famine is over
Why don't they go home?

Now Athenry Mike was a thief
And Large John he was fully briefed
And that wee traitor from Castlemilk
Turned his back on his own
They've all their Papists in Rome
They have U2 and Bono
Well the famine is over
Why don't they go home?

INSTRUMENTAL

Now they raped and fondled their kids
That's what those perverts from the darkside did
And they swept it under the carpet
and Large John he hid
Their evils seeds have been sown
Cause they're not of our own
Well the famine is over
Why don't you go home?

Now Timmy don't take it from me
Cause if you know your history
You've persecuted thousands of people
In Ireland alone
You turned on the lights
Fuelled U boats by night
That's how you repay us
It's time to go home.

Rangers fans against Racism & bigotry

You would have to be  pretty ignorant to hear this song or read these words & not think that it is pure trash. It is racist & bigoted........I guess the BNP will enjoy this song. I am so glad it's  not allowed to be sung at football games or anywhere else........ A  section of fans who follow rangers are nothing more than a bunch of racist ignorant heathens........ Why don't they go home ? [where ever that may be ?   [read your history & see where the first people to set foot in scotland came from]........& we live in a multi cultural society. We don't need no more trouble.

I did not leave my name or e - mail address, because i don't want it, bombarded with possible hate mail, [see places like myspace ect] they abuse their freedom of speech on that site.......Also forgot to add  BNP stands for BRITISH NAZI PARTY.

That has never been sung at a football match. All that is sung there is the single question "the famine is over, why don't they go home?". This is aimed not at the famine itself but at mocking the maudlin songs, etc of Celtic fans. The so-called "full words" above are something some loonball added to the one question sung at games and stuck on the internet.

The suggestion that 'home' is elsewhere and that you have the right to decide who is entitled to live in this country is racist. You don't need to read the 'full words' to comprehend the sentiment. We should not expect any more from people who perform a straight arm salute in Tel Aviv.

The memorial sculptures are very powerful. Are they in Dublin?
