Barenaked Ladies are finding themselves one frontman short after singer Steven Page announced that he was leaving the band.

Page, a founding member of the band, is leaving to pursue his solo career.

The departure was announced on the band’s official website, which read:

“By mutual agreement, Steven Page will be parting company with the remaining members of Barenaked Ladies. Jim Creeggan, Kevin Hearn, Ed Robertson, and Tyler Stewart will continue recording and touring together as Barenaked Ladies. Steven Page will pursue solo projects including theatrical opportunities while the band enters the studio in April 2009, and hits the road in the fall.”

The split follows Page’s July arrest for cocaine possession for which he was sentenced to six months probation.

Steven is an amazing talent and a great person. In any venue, large or small (as was the case at this Microsoft party), he performs with heart and never lets his audience down. A true professional. Cheers
