Beck takes on MSNBC

On October 14 pundit Glenn Beck took on MSNBC,  satirically mocking  the likes of Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews and calling the news network one "devoted to singing [Obama's] praises".

If only he had a bit more depth and subtlety,  he might make his points effectively.  He is a bit too boyish and overplayed for the subtle and the discerning:

Glenn Beck mocked his cable news competitors Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews Wednesday afternoon on his Fox News show.

"The president has an entire network devoted to singing his praises," Beck said of MSNBC. "There's a guy on at night I love, and he's like Shakespearean. He is waxing poetic about his oratory skills, writing soliloquies," he said, showing off his impression of Olbermann.

"And then another guy's like, 'I've got a thrill going up my leg' when they just hear him speak." he said of Matthews. "It's incredible!"

Beck also knocked the network news broadcasts and "Saturday Night Live," claiming they haven't been tough on Obama.

Beck is correct in pointing this out.  The White House has engaged in attacking FOX.  MSNBC, particuarly Christ Matthews has had a trickle running down his leg whenever he speaks of President Obama.

Journalism at its best, I suppose.

Beck is comical and sometimes can't be taken seriously, however the Administration obviously sees him as a threat.

Beck has his followers and despite the attempts to discredit him and the disengagement of sponsors seems to continue to rack up ratings.

I think Beck is a bit too much 'in your face'

Roy:  I think Obama comes by his charisma honestly and naturally:  He is one of those "manna from heaven"  archetypal men,  and he cannot help it,  and does not try to consciously cultivate his cult status,  others do this for him,  and he receives it.  Beck reminds me of Eminem:  almost "white trash"  but it is endearing and he has that "boy next door"  and "little boy lost"  appeal---but he is just too over the top and his ideas are ill-conceived.  He has every right to take on Olbermann and Matthews,  but he is just "off"  in some way, and I cannot quite put my finger on his deficiency.  I am not against him,  though,  I mean,  I "get"  him to a certain degree. (btw,  Peake and panel is shaping up,  will tell you when I am less busy)  smk

Oh yeah, this guys a genius I tell ya, a genius. He speaks for the "silent majority." More like a bunch of loud mouthed, rude people. I saw multiple cases of this silent majority's behavior during the town hall forums on health care. Spare me!

I can't wait for Olbeman, and more than likely, John Stewart's reaction to this guy. They'll eat him  live, and Beck won't need any Vick's for the crying jag that will follow.

nanute,

Not certain, but i don't think the Tea Baggers are the ones who have displayed their manners at numerous G7/8 meetings.

I mean, my, aren't they the well behaved bunch!

Burning cars, riots, defacing property............... the Tea Bag folks have a lot to learn about "rude".

To assume that he speaks for the folks at the Tea Bag meetings, leaves one to assume that Olberman & Matthews speak for the G8 protesters.......except we both know that isn't true.

Thanks for this, smk. I agree with albertacowpoke in so far as "...the Administration obviously sees him as a threat."

And, like Roy, I am 'immune' to charisma as well.

On your comment:

"I think Obama comes by his charisma honestly and naturally:  He is one of those "manna from heaven"  archetypal men,  and he cannot help it,  and does not try to consciously cultivate his cult status,  others do this for him,  and he receives it."

Charisma is a skill or an art -- It seems that President Obama has developed his.

How to be Charismatic

I don't believe people who have an atmosphere or quality about them, set out to be "charismatic."  There is a field of energy that emanates from them and draws others in.  This can be both positive or negative energy.  Descriptions of these kind of people are:  1) whenever they are speaking, it's like they are speaking directly to you; 2) when they come into a room their presence dominates; 3) we tend to either believe them completely or disbelieve them vehemently.

How many of the most talked about people here fit into those categories?

Certain media love to Deepthroat Obamalicious stories to their viewers, hence why I watch stations which are not as political, hard to find, but doable.
