Ben & Jerry's Celebrates Gay Marriage With Hubby Hubby Ice Cream
Ben & Jerry's has renamed their Chubby Hubby ice cream to Hubby Hubby for the month of September, in support of Vermont's desicion to legalize same-sex marriage.
The Hubby Hubby ice cream will only be sold in the ice cream company's home state of Vermont. The name change is mostly symbolic - the ice cream pints in stores will still read Chubby Hubby, but the company is handing out Hubby Hubby ice cream for free during the day. Chubby Hubby ice cream is vanilla ice cream with fudge and peanut butter and fudge covered peanut butter filled pretzels.
Vermont's marriage equality law comes into effect today. Five other states have previously legalized same-sex marriage: Massachussetts, Connecticut, Iowa, Maine, and New Hampshire.
According to a company press release, Ben & Jerry’s renaming the ice cream “aims to raise awareness of the importance of marriage equality and to encourage other states to follow the blazing trails of Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Iowa, and Maine.”
