There's nothing like promoting a new flavour of ice cream in order to encourage world peace. But hey, if it works, who am I to argue?
I don't think John Lennon would disapprove.

Ice cream maker Ben & Jerry's is introducing a new flavour called "Imagine Whirled Peace."

That's w-h-i-r-l-ed not w-o-r-l-d.

The idea of giving peace a lick is a takeoff on the John Lennon tune Imagine, recorded in 1971.

The new flavour is a caramel and sweet cream whirl of chocolate-covered peace signs and toffee pieces.

The company worked with the estate of Lennon, who was shot to death in Manhattan in 1980, to introduce the new flavour.

The promotion also includes a recreation of the "Bed-In" staged by John Lennon and Yoko Ono in 1969 aimed at promoting world peace.

The company says actress Maggie Gyllenhaal and Ben & Jerry's co-founder Jerry Greenfield will reprise the roles Tuesday.

amyjudd, I like this story. It's good stuff.

I'm sure it will be just as delicious as all of their other flavours!! Can't wait to try it :)

I've read a few articles about Ben and Jerry's and they actually have great core company values and missions. I guess this is just one more step in the right direction for them.

Great play on words. I love the branding possibilities inherent in the name. This is a great marketing concept.

I make stained glass in my spare time. My teenaged daughter likes the peace sign (and what it stands for), so I made her a window.

I originally made this for a sweet ten year old girl I care alot about. I'm very glad to see it used with its original intent

I love Ben and Jerry's ice cream, and I can't get over how creative they are.....especially when it comes to naming their ice creams.


This one Whirled Peace, is just another clever name that they have come up with. I am excited to try it.

Ben and Jerry no longer own the company.  They sold a couple of years ago.  It is now owner by the multi-billion dollar international corporation Unilever.  Doesn't change the taste of their ice cream but it does make purchasing their products a little more "cold".

This wall dedicated to John Lennon is in Prague. Hard to find but once you do it's a beautiful dedication site that came to be very organically.

Standing at the John Lennon memorial, it's an amazing site with flower petals strewn accross it to make a wonderful sign we all can agree on. Peace.

It was winter in New York - my boyfriend and I had never seen the mosaic - quite moving! If I was an expert, I would have figured out how to photo shop the stuffed animals out though....yay for whirled peace!
