Bert and Ernie Gay Marriage Petition: Would You Sign?

When you take into account the history of Bert and Ernie there has never been a sexual undertone or overtone to their episodes.  Every thought that has been voiced in terms of sexuality has been strictly an insinuation.   Again I state that the History of Bert and Ernie has never been that of a married couple, but that of a friendship.  To marry them now would not only go against their history of friendship, but make no sense EXCEPT to those that have a very politically inclined agenda.Instead of ACCEPTING the loving friendship between two heterosexual male friends which has been the history of Bert and Ernie, now a POLITICAL AGENDA is now aiming to ultimately write a STORY of it's own. It is PURE speculation for me to state that it is a POLITICAL AGENDA that is trying to rewrite the history of Bert and Ernie's relationship; however what other reason could there be for changing (yes changing because we can SAFELY and STRONGLY suggest they are NON SEXUAL characters, platonic friends) sexual orientation of TWO DEFINED characters on a show aimed at children?   If creating awareness is the primary concern, a new puppet couple could be introduced; however the aimed desire is to rewrite the history of BERT and ERNIE. The rewrite would be Bert and Ernie a gay couple that married only recently because in the past they were unable due to laws and/or possible potential fears.My belief for creating a new puppet couple is based on honesty.  There is no honesty when we base a couple on friendship and then suddenly change their intention, OTHER THAN insinuating ......WE WERE GAY THE WHOLE TIME, but could not "come out" because of existing threats.  This is a political move plain and simple.  A political move that does not take into account or ignore the value of platonic friendship.To create awareness create a new puppet couple, this will create a new presence, a new storyline and beginning, rather than taking away and rewriting the history of what so many individuals adore; a true friendship based on the love of friendship, not based on a sexual relationship.Re-post if you believe in the love friendship and the legacy that Sesame Street's Bert and Ernie have instilled within you.

you kno what the thought of this just made me want to through up. makes me sick to my stomach. bert and ernie,  married? gay? Thier fake for god sake, thier puppets.  If any parent would ever have such an out look on life, they are a disgrace. anrt u suppossed to keep your kids away from sex as long as possible?  I have never seen a parent act any different nore have i ever seen a parent let thier kids every watch nething sexually on tv or in books nething. this is a strait up disgrace to nething on tv i never watched bert and ernie but i kno its a very nice and  loving kdis show and remain on air for ever. but if some one who makes that show even thinks of something like this needs to be put in prison for even having a thought of this, cause that means their no better then the child rappest who u see go to prison everyday on the news. I feel very strongly about all this and i most deffenitly am totally aginst this.

I am against Bert & Ernie getting married.  It is not that I am against gay marriage it is just that Ernie is way too promiscuous!  I mean I watch Sesame Street with my little boy and I don’t say anything but just watch him.  Take a look at when Burt went to Peoria for the Pigeon convention.  The first chance Ernie gets he goes and spends the night at Big Bird’s Nest and won’t go to sleep.   Also, take a look at the segment “Journey to Ernie”.  Ernie is constantly hanging out that the Cruising Park looking and hoping to be found.  In 40 years of Sesame Street Ernie shows absolutely no signs of a commitment and that is what we are really looking for in a marriage, regardless if it is gay or not.   Mitch Rozen Rochester, NY

I'm not saying that a gay marriage is what sesame street needs but I do think that some education of gay people is what children need. I know for a fact that people who have had no education in why gay relationships are okay, tend to dislike gay people. My sister came out as bisexual at the age of 13 and people who had no understanding of gay relationships still consistently bully her. If children had an education in gay relationships,  then surely this horrific bullying would come to an end.

Maybe all the illegals will finally go back where they came from. Ridiculous... It amazes me that people would even waste their time coming up with a petition for this.  It's the creators choice to do what they wish with their creations, they shouldn't be forced to because of an agenda.  I grew up with ernie and Bert and the Sesame Street gang... in fact they are a year younger than I am... I also grew up gay and I say leave the puppets and their creators alone for fikes sakes!

All I know is that OV has it right. The Count would have to officiate. Grover would be the best man -- and Rubber Ducky would be the ring bearer.

This issue actually alludes to a much broader and sensitive issue in America today. America needs to have an outing and frank discussion about gay rights and civil unions in America and American culture today.

DON'T BE STUPID! GAYS WOULD BE SIGNING THEIR OWN DEATH WARRANT! As a black man I know what happens when people start burning puppets: They dehumanize the real people those puppets represent. Once you get a group of people to cheer when bad things happen to a puppet, you could do the same thing to the real people and get cheers as well. Then it's only a matter of time before you can burn them on a cross. After all, they're only puppets!
