Last year, I started a little tradition of compiling the best 'best of' lists from around the web.

Now, as another new year is already upon us, 'tis time again to reflect on the myriad and most interesting ‘Best of 2008′ lists that surfaced across the web during the dying days of the year that was:

1. 30 Most Notable Blogs of 2008 (Mr. Meta-list himself, Fimoculous, rocks it with a great list of under-the-radar sites. If you don't know, now you know.)
2. 20 Biggest Album Flops of 2008 (Metromix compiles the year's biggest music let downs)
3. Best Books of 2008 (The excellent science-meets-culture publication, Seed Magazine, offers up the best reads of the year.)
4. 10 Most Memorable Twitter Moments of 2008 (Mashable marks the most memorable and momentous micro-musings of the year.)
5. 20 Best Mug Shots of the Year (Only The Smoking Gun would be fit to compile this creepy, funny, and strangely compelling gallery of shame.)
6. Master List of Online "Best of 2008" Music Lists (the tradition continues with LargeheartedBoy assembling a massive collection of music lists. He's got books covered too.)
7. 16 Best New Manga of 2008 (About.com offers up must-read manga of the year.)
8. 12 Most Influential Women of 2008 (MSN Lifestyle lists the powerhouse women of 2008. Clinton and Palin are #1 and 2, natch.)
9. 10 Dance Turkeys of 2008 (Ye olde Telegraph reports on the most egregious errors on stage in the esteemed world of contemporary "dahnce", dahling.)
10. Best and Worst Logos of 2008 (Brand New boldly critiques re-brandings, new logos, and shifting corporate identities. Warning: be careful when using circles.)
11. 10 Best Star Wars 'Things' of 2008 (Star Wars fans take fandom to an entirely other level of obsession. See "Finding Rusty Miller!" for details.)
12. 5 Worst Lyrics of 2008 (The Guardian cites several of the most egregious examples of lyrical frivolity and meaninglessness in music this past year. And, yes, Coldplay is first on the list.)
13. 10 Best Buildings of 2008 (The New Yorker notes fave pieces of architecture constructed in the past year.)
14. 8 Best Rap Vocal Effects of 2008 (Hip-hop heads take note, Passion of the Weisz schools us on vox + rap efx.) 
15. 5 Best T-Shirts of 2008 (Coolhunting selects the finest.)
    
16. 26 Best Ideas of the Year (The New York Times' big list of the big ideas of 2008, including such zingers as "Carbon Penance" and "Scrupolisty Disorder". Whee!)
17. 10 Best Digital Lifestyle Products of 2008 (Digital accessories to up your lifestyle brand quotient, as sourced and approved by ReadWriteWeb.)
18. Best Perfumes of 2008 (Spritz spritz - Now Smell This picks their fave smells of the year.)
19. 37 Things That Have Made Me Happy in 2008 (This Is That author Johanna Reed writes up some of her favourite things, an eclectic assortment of wonders & delights.)
20. 7 Best Capers of 2008 (Wired sorts out the best "technology-aided" crimes of the year. "The Snohomish Smokescreen" is pretty incredible.)
21. 10 Worst Pop Culture Bits Of the Year (Gotta give Gawker cred for this one. Especially notable for its Heiglarious #4 selection)
22. 50 Best Restaurants of the World in 2008 (S.Pellegrino ranks the most delicious places to dine around the globe. Delectable!)
23. 200 Digital Music Startups from 2008 (Music Ally rounds up a huge list of companies competing for turf in the ever-expanding world of digitized soundbytes.)
24. 10 Best Beers and 5 Best Breweries of 2008 (InventorSpot pours out a fine list of the world's tastiest brews and finest brew-meisters.)
25. 20 Most Annoyingly Catchy Songs of 2008 (NowPublic's very own list you'll love to hate.)
26. 100 Best U.S. Cities for Jobs in 2008 (Forbes ranks urban centres. Detroit is #100. Will the new year yield new results? It might be best to keep in mind the 30 Best Careers selected by U.S. News or Fortune's list of the 100 Best Companies to Work For)
27. Ten Best Lists of 2008 (a mini-meta-list of lists via the good folks at Paste Magazine)
    
28. 20 Best Reality TV Show Moments of 2008 (Yeah...thanks for this, Jezebel. This is the stuff that really mattered.)
29. 16 Best Viral Videos of 2008 (And, of course, Videogum summarizes the year's most amazingly awesome examples of webtastic videography. Ante up, Bill O'Reilly!)
