Michael Jackson & James Brown, Same Stage

The BET Awards 2009 will continue on as planned on Sunday, June 28, even after the shocking death of pop music legend Michael Jackson.  The BET Awards will air as scheduled at 8pm ET from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.  A last minute tribute to Michael Jackson has already been added to the program.

In the aftermath of the June 25, 2009 death of King of Pop Michael Jackson, look for many tributes to be paid to the legendary performer by presenters and performers alike. The show will, in addition to presenting the awards, honor the life, legacy and musical genius of Michael Jackson whose untimely death at age 50 has left the music world in shock.

“Words cannot capture the impact Michael Jackson has had on pop culture around the world,” said Debra L. Lee, chairman and chief executive officer of BET Networks. “He changed the way we hear and feel and move to music; he epitomized what true musical talent and star power really mean. He is and always will be the King of Pop.”

Michael Jackson made a memorable appearance onstage at the 2003 BET Awards along side Godfather of Soul James Brown who received the BET Lifetime Achievement Award that year. You can see video of that historic moment below.

BET I understand that you had to completly change the bet awards, but I was so disappointed and offended with all the cussing, and then they had the nerve to say I give Thanks To God. What did you actually change?

And the rapper that had the big chain around his neck that said BIG ASS CHAIN, give me a break, the dress attire was insulting aka no class.

And the Baby Boy skit and cussing was totally out of line!

This was the worst BET AWARDS SHOW, the dress attire was low class, there should be no cussing, and to the rappers for one night, can you PLEASE dress nice and represent are BET AWARDS show with class, I was so embarress. Rememeber the children are watching these rappers and other entertainers, so please have respect and class, the kids are the future.

Beyonce, Monica, Keyshia Cole, Maxwell, and the OJays I enjoyed, but Eddie Levert of the O'Jays watch your mouth, you are too old to let that cuss word come out of your mouth.

Jamie Foxx I hope they never have you as the host again, the cussing and the insults were ridiculous! Jamie I was very disappointed in you to say the least!

P.S. I am a 55 year old grandmother and mother, please show respect, we deserved that. Debra Johnson you should of been offended!

I personally think that the tribute to Michael Jackson was nice but BET should be ashamed of themselves for failing to honour him properly by showing pictures oh him when his skin was white. That's how he died, and if you really didnt care what he looked like, you should have shown pictures of him, both black and white....afterall irrespective of his skin he was born black and was proud to be black. I'm a young black woman from London and personally I thought that kind of ruined the tribute a bit, Michael achieved soo much both before and after his skin colour changed and I think that by ignoring that you played right into the hands of the media that you were supposedly challenging...
