Big Boi's 'big' Ballet

For some reason I would have expected Big Boi to come out with a 'hip-hopera' and Andre3000 to be the one behind a 'rap ballet' like this. Guess not.

Good on Big Boi for pushing mixed aesthetics to a strange new place where 'La Traviata' meets 'Speakerboxx'."

Rapper Khujo Goodie and crooner Sleepy Brown have joined the cast of big, the new ballet produced and by and starring Outkast member Big Boi.

Big Boi has teamed with Atlanta Ballet, which was founded in 1929 and is the longest continuously-operating ballet company in the United States.

The Atlanta-based professional ballet company will co-produce six performances of big with Big Boi, which is being choreographed by Lauri Stallings.

"big is the place, event, and experience where we leave our inhibitions at the door, and move forward," Stallings explained. "big is an example of possibilities…a place for the senses to open, and be lifted, setting a new height for creativity and awareness towards ourselves and the people sitting right next to us."

Big Boi’s ballet will also include new music by Big Boi, interwoven with classic masterpieces like Verdi’s La Traviata.

It's a great idea, really- the was was paved, in part, by Metallica's pairing with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra for S&M (Symphony & Metallica, you pervs!)
