Of course the American President would only appear on a hot game show when it's to support a homegrown, three-tour veteran of the Iraq war — that's called betting on the televisual power of patriotism to reinvigorate public confidence during the Bush administration's final days of decline.

President Bush ... open your case.

The commander-in-chief will make a guest appearance on Monday'sepisode of the NBC game show "Deal or No Deal."

Bush taped a video message for "Deal" contestant Capt. JosephKobes, a U.S. Army transportation officer who served three tours ofduty in Iraq. Kobes won a Purple Heart and Bronze Star andvolunteered for his second and third deployments.

"The show's producers contacted the White House after learning fromCapt. Kobes that the president is one of his heroes," White Housespokesman Tony Fratto said. "And it really is, actually, anemotional moment for Capt. Kobes and the family. And so we lookforward to that, and we all wish him luck as well."

"Deal" frequently surprises contestants with supportive visits bytheir heroes, but the president is the highest-profile person toappear on the show. Bush shot the message at the White House for anepisode that taped in March.
