Following Smashing Pumpkins drummer Jimmy Chamberlain bailing on the band March, frontman/baldman Billy Corgan held an open audition to find his replacement.

Well, according to band fansite Hipster United, Corgan has settled on Berklee College of Music freshman Mike Byrne, the drummer for Oregon-based band Moses, Smell the Roses (real band name –no joke

I think I have my drummer of the future. I've worked with him so far for one week and all indications are really good that he's the man for the job. Going to work with him some more before it becomes official.

Byrne himself has posted updates on his MySpace pag, including this:

Mikeis jamming with the Smashing Pumpkins for a week in May. Holy crap.

Holy crap, indeed.
