'The Birds' Barbie Doll

After its legal win over Bratz dolls and outcry over its S&M Barbie Mattel now launches 'The Birds' Barbie Doll featuring Barbie being attacked by some vicious birds. It's to celebrate the the 45th anniversary of the release of Hitchcock's classic film 'The Birds'.

The doll surely isn't aimed at Barbie's army of little girl (and some boy) fans but squarely at the collectors market. Because it is aimed at this market hardly any will ever be played with and so almost all the ones bought will remain pristine and in their boxes resulting in not much added value whereas real toys that are played with means that the odd few that do remain in box rise almost exponentially in monetry value over the years.

Barbie and G.I. Joe and the other name dollies should maybe be left un-celebrityfied and allowed to be themselves - for after all they are themselves celebrities for kids already.

For those who want it 'The Birds' Barbie will be on sale late September / early October.
