"Blonde, pretty, dumb - I don't need brains" - 11 year old beauty queen

"Blond, pretty, dumb - I don't need brains", is how 11 year-old Sasha Bennington describes herself. At 10 she entered Britain's first adult-style beauty pageant for kids and her foray into the US pageant circuit is documented in a forthcoming TV program, Sasha, Beauty Queen at 11.

Her mother, Jayne, says she just wants Sasha to be famous and is so determined for her to become the next Jordan that she spends around £300 a month on beauty treatments on her and encourages her to wear lots of makeup. If Sasha's portfolio is anything to go by, the results are disturbing - a pre-pubescent Lolita with an adult woman's face and a porn star's vacant expression.

Jayne has even enrolled Sasha in cheerleading classes to prepare her for US competitions. She makes Sasha perform her routines wherever she goes, including in the middle of restaurants. 'You have to be out there, being noticed, even at a bus stop. What if Andrew Lloyd Webber walks past?'

Fending off inevitable criticisms of being a stage mum, Jayne says:

'She's always wanted to be a model, 100 per cent. I'm just helping her do what she wants, like any good parent would. It's not pushing her into anything. I hate it when people say I'm a pushy parent. I'm not. I just want the best for her.'

...and right on the heels of a top model suicide.   At least she had a childhood. sad

Sad, how some parents seem to want only what was their childhood dream and never lived it out. Now they use their children as a means to do so.

The mother stated "It comes as no surprise that Jayne used to be a model herself, and one who worked in the 'glamour' side of the business.  She started at 23  -  which, she explains, was 'far too late' for real career success  -  and now believes that earlier is better, in order to maximise profit and notoriety.

And the mother states "I want her to be famous" and no where does Sasha say this in the story"

Very sad & twisted :-(

Indeed. It's ironic that Jayne Bennington may actually be ruining her daugher's chances of becoming a proper child model/actress (assuming that this is what Sasha, and not stage mother dearest, wants), given that her refusal to tone down Sasha's look was the reason Sasha was rejected by a major modelling agency.  Instead she wants her daughter to be a glamour model and what she doesn't seem to understand - or care about - is that people who want that sort of look from a child are from the shady side of the modelling industry.

What's disturbing is how this girl can seriously describe herself as "blonde, pretty, dumb", and her mum thinks it's hilarious.  What will Sasha have to fall back on when she grows older and she's no longer popular with those Page 3 viewers who want to see the next fresh young body?  Maybe she'll have a baby and bring her up to be the next Jordan, just like mother did.

good stuff:

If Jayne wants a two-dimensional child who will have wasted her youth on what is ultimately a crap-shoot, then she's definitely on the right track. One thing she must understand is that neediness is a turnoff in the entertainment industry. The best thing for Sasha is to develop other interests, so that the industry needs her more than she needs the industry.

Just like Jonbenet, I found the images of this young girl quite scary.  Developing a balance between the superficial (looks, money, etc..) and deep things such as having intellegence, being creative or deep involvement in other interests which allow you to utilize more than what is on the surface would help this girl develop a healthier sense of self than being the top model would ever be.

This is really worrying. She's just a kid, and she's been raised to think that her looks are the most important thing, when her mum should have been raising her to know that there are more important things, instead of turning her into a appearance obsessed monster.

I can almost imagine her mother saying over dinner "So what if you didn't do well in today's test? Only ugly girls need brains."

As I read the interview with Jayne, I noticed that it seems to be more about her than Sasha and as everchanging pointed out, she's living out her ambitions through her daughter (even though she denies that in the interview there's a few choice comments in there that make me think otherwise). This is why I'm a bit skeptical when she claims it's all Sasha's idea.  At least Jordan made the choice to be a glamour model by herself.

It would be interesting to hear what Jordan herself would have to say about this story but unfortunately there doesn't seem to have been any comment from her since this was published.

Indeed the ogress of a mother has her own agenda... oooh! oooh! look at ME, look, look, this photograph was taken 4 years ago, and look at me now, I still look like a sl*t.... Oooh, Oooh I could have been a porn star.... Hah!

But the father is as much to blame.. how fr*gging ineffectual is he? Having, thus far told his daughter (and now, the nation) that Sasha is nothing more than a brainless blonde bimbo... (Wow! fancy having a parasitic mother and a louse of a father!). Does he really need to pander to the whims of Plain Jayne (sorry darling, but you've had your 15 seconds of fame - 15 minutes would have been too much for your local council to handle - they would have slapped you down with an ASBO).

Sasha is eleven.. eleven years old... allow her an education, allow her her own life. Not YOUR life as you wished it was.

Jayne is the most disgusting, pathetic excuse of a parent I have ever seen.

When she said tro Sasha, "If you don't get accepted on this one, you're grounded" I had to turn to my boyfriend to make sure I heard right. Some of the things she said makes my skin crawl, "I hate being a parent some times". And comparing your daughter to a Barbie doll? This programme was really disturbing.
Just because Jayne failed miserably in life she has to make her daughter correct her mistakes? It's in cases like this I can see Sasha saying in a few years, "Mummy, I want to be a Doctor"....and Jayne grounding her.
My boyfriend said he probably couldn't even watch the whole programme, and he's never wanted to punch a woman so much in his life. In all honesty, I'd love to take a swing at her too.

"I've still got it....I'm beautiful...I'm a yummy mummy." You're ugly, you're possesive, you're the worst parent I have ever encountered. And as for Sasha saying the three most important things in her life, "Jordan, mates...and my beautiful face." I cringed.

In all honesty, this little girl may be pretty....but she's no prettier than any other child out there. She is certainly NOT beautiful....when I saw her caked in make uthhair extensions and a tan, I actually went, "Eugghh!" Poor child.

Jayne Bennington is sick, and twisted.
Some parents don't deserve to have children.

Child abuse? I think so.

Worried about Max

If you watch the programme and see the youngest son Max who is always in the background. Is anyone else not worried about him always being pushed aside? He was also made to be in the competition, won more awards than Sasha and yet the mother was not bothered. I am more worried about him than what Sasha will become???

AW.

My first thought was how grown-up she looks, which of course, would be a sick, perverted 'heaven' for peadophiles. Of course, the oh so caring Mother said this  -

"People go on about the paedophile thing, but they've got that one wrong. Paedophiles don't want girls who look 18. If anything, it's the fresh-faced younger ones they want."

She cleary doesn't have a clue, and that is highly worrying.

Unfortunately I don't know when this program will be broadcast in Australia, but reading snippets posted here makes me feel really sorry for Sasha.

I like how the parents have included photos of themselves.

Urgh. Watched this last night and it left me feeling really sad.

The poor child seemed utterly devoid of personality and had nothing to say for herself at all - she's obviously so used to her mother doing all the talking for her, and not being allowed any opinions or views that conflict with what that souless woman wants. Nor did she seem to have much self-confidence, again not helped by her mothers behaviour and critisism.

It really worries me to see a young girl being told, from early childhood: All that's important is how you look. Nothing else matters. You don't need intelligence or independance or personality or heart or soul. Just look good, look sexy. You could become a "celeb" or a wag. You're stupid. You're worth no more than the value that can be placed on your physical boby.

Yes, her father - HER FATHER!! - told her she was stupid. When the interviewer asked her to sum herself up in 3 words she defined herself as blonde, pretty and dumb. My heart bleeds for this girl. I hope it's not too late for her.

As for her mother grooming her own daughter for the sex industry from a pre-pubescent age?! Aren't there laws against this sort of thing? Please tell me there are!

Terrible parenting. They are both as thick as two short planks. I think the boy will be OK though. His mum seems to be much less harsh on him.

I Feel So Sorry For Sasha She Don Have To Live Her Life Like This Maybe She Dose Not Want To Be A Model But She Wont Tell You Because You Would End Up Having Ago At The Poor Child And Just To Let You Know Fake Tan Is Not Good For Kids Or Didnt You No !!!!

perry cormo

can the authoritites not step in and stop this

coz they should.

JPen

After watching the girl and her parents in the recent documentary, it's obvious that they are morons; and there is something most people seem to have missed: the child, Sasha, is ugly anyway.
