Bob Bogle of The Ventures Dies at the Age of 75
Guitarist Bob Bogle, lead guitarist for 60's rock band The Ventures, has died in his hometown of Tacoma, WA.
Bogle helped co-found the instrumental band that had several hits in the 60's including Walk, Don't Run.
Bogle, who was suffering from from non-Hodgkin lymphoma for the past several years, fell ill this weekend and was taken to the hospital. He passed on June 14, 2009.
Bogle started the band in Don Wilson in 1958. Their first hit was 1965's Walk, Don't Run, a twangy guitar instrumental that became a huge hit worldwide.
Despite the fact that the band was from Washington state, their music was largely associated with surf culture. They went on to have other instrumental hits including Telstar, Perfidia and Hawaii Five-O, many of which influenced a generation of rock guitarists.
Their song Wild Child was sampled in the 1999 hit Start the Commotion by The Wiseguys, which was used in several TV commercials and films.
In 2008, the Ventures were inducted into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame. The Ventures still have a large following in Japan and toured the country for decades and produced several albums for their huge Japanese fanbase. Their song Ginza Lights, which had little impact in the US, is an enduring classic in Japan.

That was the best written obituary of Bob Bogle I've read since he died. Thank you!
