Booze ASBOS from today
This is a good idea, but will it work?
What about an ASBO to those companies flogging booze at every known opportunity such as football matches too?
I look forward to the first idiot who will receive a Booze ASBO.
People responsible for alcohol-fuelled crime and anti-social behaviour face having new "booze Asbos" slapped on them from now on.
"Drinking Banning Orders", or BDOs, will be an option available to police and local authorities to protect the public from drink-related offences. The orders mean magistrates can impose conditions on individuals, such as banning them from drinking in certain places.
Anyone breaching the order can be punished with fines of up to £2,500, and the orders can last for up to two years. Offenders can have them shortened by the successful completion of a "positive behaviour intervention course".
but Magistrates aren't happy this appears to be duplicating current legislation:
"The orders duplicate existing legislation and are unlikely to help solve problems caused by drunkenness on Britain's streets.
"We are not convinced that DBOs will do very much more than the provisions magistrates already have at their disposal and we do not believe they answer our demands for more alcohol treatment courses," a spokeswoman for the Magistrates' Association said."
