The Bourne Legacy: Jeremy Renner Joins Treadstone

The Jason Bourne franchise is still alive, just without Jason Bourne. In The Bourne Legacy, Jeremy Renner steps in as the newest iteration of Treadstone super-assassin. Returning Bourne trilogy cast members include Joan Allen (Pamela Landy), David Strathairn (Noah Vosen), Scott Glenn (Exra Kramer), and Albert Finney (Dr. Albert Hirsch).

You can see the trailer for The Bourne Legacy below; the film is slated for an August 3, 2012 release date.

This is the first Bourne film since 2007, and the risk is that the soul of the franchise is gone. The Bourne Identity and its sequels weren't really about espionage, but about how a person can redetermine what he has been told is his fate.

Taking the trailer for The Bourne Legacy on its own merits (i.e. things blowing up), do you think that Jeremy Renner can fill Matt Damon's reluctant-action-hero shoes? Also, does Jeremy Renner get those headaches? Clive Owen got the worst headaches...
