A yellow, hairy spider that lives in the rainforests of Malaysia has been named after singer David Bowie. The spider was discovered by spider specialist Peter Jaeger, who has found over 200 new species of spider in the last ten years - most of them endangered.

Jaeger named the species Heteropoda davidbowie in order to raise awareness about the endangered spiders.

Bowie, who also embarked on a concert circuit in 1987 called the Glass Spider Tour, has yet to react to the news.
