Bristol Palin is petitioning baby daddy and playgirl centerfold, Levi Johnston, for sole custody of the former-couple's child Tripp. According to court documents, Bristol filed for sole custody in early November but the request was made public following a Superior Court judge's ruling against keeping the court proceedings closed. Not shockingly, Levi Johnston pushed for open court proceedings.

Palin wanted to keep the proceedings closed citing no good "could result to the child by an onslaught of media." While Johnston argued in a statement, "I feel more comfortable in a public courtroom which will help everyone stay civil and be on their best behavior."

Johnston is also fighting claims that ha has avoided parental responsibilities and is seeking shared custody with his former fiancé.

"The best interests of the child compel the conclusion that Bristol should be awarded 100 percent legal and physical custody of Tripp, with visitation rights in favor of Levi," Thomas V. Van Flein, Bristol's attorney, said in the papers.
