Don't call it a comeback: if the post-2008 MVA blogosphere buzz is to be believed, Britney Spears may be genuinely poised to reclaim her princess-of-pop status.

She'll take her first step on the long road back to credibility with the release of her new album, Circus, on December 2nd, 2008, which just so happens to be Brit's 27th birthday.

But is a full-force, fully-fledged Britney comeback possible?

With a lead-off single titled "Womanizer", I'm still feeling skeptical -- it sounds like she's taking cues from Nelly Furtado circa "Maneater". Then again, that album sold more than 6 million copies.

And if Britney hits those kinds of numbers, she will officially be back in business. She just might have to enlist Timbaland's help to do it.

Britney Spears is planning another comeback as she prepares to release her next album on 2 December - the star's 27th birthday.

Circus will be Spears's sixth studio album, and the first single Womanizer will be released on 22 September, her label Jive/Zomba said in a statement.

Her last album, Blackout, released in 2007, came during a year of rehab stays and a child custody battle.

Although it was certified platinum, it was one of her least successful.
