Eminem Gets Pranked By Bruno at the MTV Movie Awards

OK, fine, I watched some of the MTV Movie Awards. The part I caught, though, was the bit where Sacha Baron Cohen, in his persona of Bruno, the ultra-camp television presenter, descended from the auditorium ceiling dressed in this sort of Icarus outfit, in a hail of faux-German expletives, to land with his butt in Eminem's face. Eminem and his entourage reacted as one would expect, with expletives of their own, plenty of shoving, and a hasty exit from the auditorium.

Bruno then gave Zac Efron an award for... I'm not sure what. Apparently, neither did Efron, as his acceptance speech seemed somewhat vague.

Eminem had only just recently performed (OK, so I had watched more than a few minutes), and is heavily promoting his new album, so I'm thinking that this was a publicity stunt. After all, Eminem was miced, and there were no camera-coverage gaps in his entourage's hasty exit.

... and I was right, as was everybody else who speculated that the stunt was staged.

"Yes, the Bruno/Eminem incident was staged," he wrote. "That's all anyone wants to talk about, so let's get it out of the way. They rehearsed it at dress and yes, it went as far as it did on the live show then."
"Sacha called me when we were in Europe, and he had an idea to do something outrageous at the Movie Awards. I'm a big fan of his work, so I agreed to get involved with the gag," Eminem tells RapRadar. "I'm thrilled that we pulled this off better than we rehearsed it."

Bruno's Eminem stunt was staged, says MTV boss
The stunt involving Sacha Baron Cohen's film character Bruno landing on Eminem during the MTV Movie Awards last week (May 31) was staged, MTV head writer Scott Aukerman has confirmed.
Writing on his Tumblr.com account (on a post since removed), Aukerman said that both Eminem and Baron Cohen had rehearsed the stunt, which saw the comedian lowering his backside into the rapper's face.
"Yes, the Bruno/Eminem incident was staged," he wrote. "That's all anyone wants to talk about, so let's get it out of the way. They rehearsed it at dress and yes, it went as far as it did on the live show then."
Fans had been speculating about whether Eminem was in on the stunt. Many pointed out that he must have been as he appeared to be mic'd up when the incident took place, mid-way through the Independent ceremony in Hollywood.

Eminem spoke with RapRadar.com about the incident in an article posted on Wednesday (June 3).

"Sacha [Baron Cohen, a.k.a. BrĂ¼no] called me when we were in Europe and he had an idea to do something outrageous at the Movie Awards. I'm a big fan of his work so I agreed to get involved with the gag," Em said. "I'm thrilled that we pulled this off better than we rehearsed it. It had so many people going 'nuts,' so to speak. Everyone was blowing me up about it."

Asked where he went after he stormed out of the theater, Eminem said, "After the ceremony I went back to my hotel and laughed uncontrollably for about three hours. Especially after I saw it on-air."
