Bruno Movie Premieres as Possible Real-Life Bruno Revealed
Actor Sacha Baron Cohen is on a mad publicity tour for his new film Bruno, which premieres in North America. Part of the publicity includes attending premieres of the films across Europe.
At the Bruno premiere in Madrid, Spain Baron-Cohen arrived in a horse-drawn carriage escorted by matadors in front of the famous bullring Las Ventas. Clad in large hooves and a bull costume, Bruno galloped in front of the press and made the following statement:
`Ich have come to redress the wrong done to the gay community by that Hollywood movie on Harvey Milk which was acted by Sean Penn, who's not even gay,' Baron Cohen told a crowd of bemused Madrid onlookers in a German accent.
At the London premiere, Bruno wore a skimpy version of the uniforms worn by Buckingham Palace guards. Bruno's outfit featured tight leather short shorts that look like something Cristiano Ronaldo might wear.
As Bruno continues to garner attention, some are suggesting that Baron-Cohen's flamboyant creation may be based on a real-life Austrian TV host.
According to TMZ, Alfons Haider is a popular TV host on state broadcaster ORF that bears at least a passing resemblance to Bruno. Haider, for one, doesn't seem much of a similarity between himself and Bruno.
The controversy has been raging in Austria for a while, but Haider just told The Telegraph newspaper, "I never understood the comparison to myself at all. The only comparisons I can think of is that I'm Austrian, I'm gay, and I work for television, but the rest is completely fiction."
