Buju Banton Granted Bail: Reggae Star to Pay $250,000
Buju Banton Has Been Granted $250,000 Bail at the Sam M Gibbons Federal Court
Buju Banton (whose real name is Mark Myrie) will still have to go through his lawyer to seek bond in the immigration court or he could be deported to Jamaica according to the Jamaica Observer.
As part of his bail conditions, he will be under house arrest, 24 hour security and will have to wear a monitoring device, all at the expense of the defense.
He can only leave his house for meetings with his attorney and for doctors’ appointments and to purchase medication. He will also be subjected to drug testing.
The court is mainly concerned about flight risk, and the government could still request another hearing before releasing Buju.
Buju Banton was arrested at his Florida home in December 2009 after trying to buy cocaine from undercover police officers. He is on trial for intent to buy and distribute cocaine, as well as possession of an illegal firearm.
