Bump, New TV Show Where America Decides to Abort or Not
Bump is a new web based TV showing airing on Mondays and Thursdays on the website, featuring actors who are faux pregnant and America decides through voting if they should keep their baby or abort it. The decision to abort or not abort is totally up to the audience.
The idea behind the show came from Barack Obama's commencement address at Notre Dame last year.
When the president said he wanted "to find ways to communicate about a workable solution to the problem of unintended pregnancies," executive producer Dominic Iocco conceived "Bump."
People can watch the show and then comment, although comments are closely monitored to avoid being rants about the positive and negative aspects of abortion.
Although the women who are pregnant are not really pregnant, the idea of the show brings up an interesting debate. Having an abortion or deciding not to have an abortion can be an intensely difficult decision so is having the American public weigh in on the matter appropriate?
Although the idea is to humanize the debate, none of the characters is especially sympathetic. Each of the three women ostensibly selected from a "pool" of 300 is pregnant under varying circumstances with which viewers are expected to relate. To be clear, no one is really pregnant.
All of the women are young and white, and although the show claims it is not about judging anyone, the viewer must judge in some way to make their final decision on what they think is the right path to take.
Do you think this is taking 'reality' tv too far? Or do you think this will open up a good dialogue?

It might be interesting to have an episode where viewers decide whether executive producer Dominic Iocco should have his brain suctioned from his skull, while he is being dismembered.
That is one i would watch.

I am amazed and aghast both. How stupid ideas come into minds of crazy producers and partcipants? Some thing personal between a man and women, married or not immaterial, should not be decided by votes.Would the producer like voting on issue such as having sex with wife.If majority votes NO,would he abstain?

It's amazing what little research is put into writing articles & how quick people are to jump to conclusions. The are NO votes! Just a conversation. Watch & listen before you judge.Peace
