Burning Man Tickets Go On Sale for 2011
Tickets for Burning Man 2011, held in Black Rock City, Nevada, went on sale today, January 19. The Burning Man website was crushed with demand, though, leaving would-be burners wondering if their ticket queue positions were lost. Burning Man is not sold out; The Shroom is a spoof blog.
The way Burning Man ticket sales are structured, it's cheaper to buy tickets sooner. Rather than adhering to arbitrary dates, the less-expensive tickets are numbered: the first 9,000 are the least pricey, followed by the next 9,000, and so on.
Burning Man ain't cheap-- First-Level tickets, already sold out, were $210 each, with Fourth-Level tickets topping out at $320. Add to that cost all your transportation, costumes, food, water, mind-altering substances, and art-car/camp elements, and it can become a pretty expensive week.
As I tested the ticket queue, I saw that there were 22,000 people ahead of me. I canceled the process in order to keep writing this piece.
Starting January 26, you can apply for low-income tickets, which cost $160.
