The Cadillacs started out as the Carnations in 1953, but thankfully changed their name. This Harlem Doo Wop group's lead singer was Earl Carroll. His nickname was "Speedo".
That's where this songs most famous line comes from:
Now they often call me Speedo,
But my real name is Mr. Earl...
The Cadillacs were known for their great dance routines. They were choreographed by Cholly Adkins. Cholly would go on to be the choreographer for Motown.
Speedo left the Cadillacs to join the Coasters in 1961.
Last time I saw Speedo, he was on one of the Doo Wop specials that PBS runs during a pledge drive. Still telling folks what his real name is.

I really loved R&B back when I was a kid. My second best favorite song was Speedo By the Cadillacs but my #1 favorite song was the back side of that 78 RPM record which is now been long gone. I have tried my best to remember the title of the song but can not remember it at all. I have tried for years to find out the name but I was the only one of my friends to like it so much. Every one was wild about Speedoo but never listened to the flip side. It was very slow and definitely had the blues going. If you or anyone can remember the title I would appreciate them letting me know. If it matters or not, I am a 71 years old white man from the South that has listened to R&B since I was a small kid. Now I have an iPOD full of my old R&Blues songs. I am just missing one song and can't even remember the name of it (duh)
HELP PLEASE!!! Van
