Moese Angel, 29, of Laytonville, died in a Redding hospital from head injuries received Monday, October 13, in a Bell Springs Road ATV accident.

Angel was a well-known reggae performer who had headlined in reggae shows around the world. Angel performed his own brand of dub uniquely blended with elements of hip-hop, percussion, jazz and blues.

As the nephew of Junior Marvin and the brother of songstress Luna Angel, Moese Angel was a well-known area fixture, entertaining sellout crowds at Reggae Rising and Reggae on the River. His mother, Akua Angel, has a specialty clothing line and actively supports the Laytonville area community; father Vidal is a world-renowned artist and sculptor.

Angel was riding an ATV on a private driveway around 4:20 p.m. when he turned southbound onto Bell Springs Road, accelerating rapidly, causing the ATV to run off the west edge of the road and strike a utility pole, according to California Highway Patrol reports. Angel suffered severe head trauma; he was not wearing a helmet, according to reports.

CalStar airlifted Angel to the Mercy Medical Center in Redding where he died in the emergency room. The Laytonville Fire Department, CalFire and the CHP responded to the accident scene.
The accident remains under investigation.
