Cameron Back's Lily Cole But Mick Jagger Pulls Out of Davos

Sir Mick Jagger has backed out of an event to promote Britain at the Davos summit after complaining of being used as a ''political football''.

The lead singer of the the Rolling Stones who formed the band in the 1960's when Britain had a thriving music industry with hit after hit from the studios of Decca, Olympic and EMI issued this strongly worded statement:

“During my career I have always eschewed party politics and came to Davos as a guest, as I thought it would be stimulating. I have always been interested in economics and world events. I now find myself being used as a political football and there has been a lot of comment about my political allegiances which are inaccurate. I think it’s best I decline the invitation to the key event and curtail my visit.”

David Cameron had recruited The Rolling Stones frontman Sir Mick Jagger to help him raise Britain’s profile on the international stage by attending the event in Switzerland to attract investment into the UK.

The Great British Tea Party in Davos, organized by Downing Street, and hosted by London mayor Boris Johnson, would have marked the first time the singer has appeared at an event for a Tory Prime Minister. Jagger's late mother Eva was an active member of the Tory Party.

Lily Cole, the model, and internet founder Sir Tim Berners-Lee will also be at the function to showcase creative British talent in the run up to the London 2012 Olympics.
