Canadian Idol Being Put on Shelf for 2009
CTV told staff Monday that the "Canadian Idol" will be put on hold for the 2009 broadcast year.
TORONTO -- "Canadian Idol" is being put on the shelf in 2009, CTV announced Tuesday.
The program hosted by Ben Mulroney finished its sixth season this fall and remained a Canadian TV ratings monster, scoring an average of 1.47 million viewers in September.
However, it appears CTV has elected to not produce the costly reality show in a year when advertising revenues are expected to drop sharply.

A break from at least one Idol show is probably a good thing in the long run.

Can't say I'm sad, but it is a sign of the times I suppose

Oh the horror! Canada is slowly losing all it's (American) culture. What will the Great Unwashed do now?

Isn't it recycled British culture? The only redeeming thing behind "American Idol" is we stole the idea from the Brits, and thus have someone else to blame.
A severe case of galloping taste breaking out north of the border probably is a good sign.
However, I think fear of the bottom line, rather than fear of bottom feeders is behind it.

I enjoyed watching the new hopefuls. I found it inspiring. Though I wish there was less talk from the judges and host, many times I would mute them.

It hasnt been doing well for a while now. So sad. Stick a fork in it , its done. Also, there was a spat between the reason. ecomnomic or the show has hit the bottom. propaganda wins again. The network sure loves propaganda.

Good, maybe if they chose real Canadian music bigwigs like: David Foster, Burton Cummings, Chad Kroeger, Bryan Adams, Diana Krall, Neil Peart or Joni Mitchell it might lend the show some credibility it never had.
