Captain America Trailer: Steve Rogers' Transformation, Red Skull, and More

The full-length Captain America trailer is now online. You can see Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) transform from scrawny army reject to ripped badass Captain America. The effects deam did a great job with CGI skinny-Steve.You also get a look at Red Skull (Hugo Weaving, who, like, never performs without some sort of facial transformation).

The trailer gives us the gist of the story: Steve Rogers really, really wants to fight the Nazis, but weighs about 11 pounds. He ends up as part of the Super Soldier program, which is run by Howard Stark (Tony "Iron Man" Stark's dad) and ain't exactly FDA approved.

Steve Rogers becomes Captain America, the USA's secret weapon against Hitler. However, the Nazis have a super soldier of their own: Red Skull. Don't call him Agent Smith or Elrond.

Anyway, the stage is set for a serious showdown. The trailer (check it out below) is a blast. MTV has a scene-by-scene breakdown of the Captain America trailer because... well, it just does.

The film is going under the title The First Avenger in some markets, eschewing the Captain America part, due to perceived pushback from eight years of Dubya. The film industry is risk-averse, so this is not an unexpected move.

Just a quick thought: was it too complicated to maybe give those bulletproof shields to the rest of Captain America's team? Seems like a useful tool against enemies with machine guns.
