Cat Power's New Song: 'Ruin'- Welcome Back, Chan
Cat Power is Back!
Cat Power's newest song, "Ruin", just hit the web. "Ruin" is a harbinger of her upcoming album, Sun, which drops September 4. This will be Cat Power's first album of original material since 2006's The Greatest.
By the end of the Nineties, audience members would actually show up to a Cat Power show expecting a train wreck, that is no longer the case. Still, Cat Power has had a tough time putting her tumultuous past behind her, suffering a nervous breakdown after The Greatest was released. (Her version of the Everly Brothers' "All I Have to Do Is Dream" is a thing of beauty.)
Cat Power (Chan Marshall when she's at home) has made a few other changes recently, such as cutting off all her hair and breaking up with Giovanni Ribisi.
Here's "Ruin", from the one and only Cat Power: she's sounding damned good.
Fun fact: Chan Marshall is the subject of Elizabeth Goodman's Cat Power: A Good Woman: a cautionary tale that also serves as a window into turn-of-the-21st-Century NYC indie music.
