Cate Blanchett Signs On To Play Maid Marian In Robin Hood Film

The upcoming Robin Hood film received a major star boost today when Academy Award winning actress Cate Blanchett signed on to play the female lead role of Maid Marian. She will star alongside Russell Crowe who plays Robin Hood in the Ridley Scott directed epic.

Production is scheduled to begin during early April in the U.K. with a reported budget of $130 Million.

benefiting from favorable exchange rates and tax credits that come from shooting in the U.K. Scott will be aiming for a PG-13 rating.

Very few plot details have been released, here is what is known so far.

Crowe plays Robin of Loxley in an origin story of Robin Hood that hews close to historical facts of the period. Abandoned as a child, he finds community with the common people of Nottingham. Robin's abandonment and trust issues hamper his ability to fall in love. He meets his match in Marian, a strong, independent woman.
