Cezanne Pro: Stolen Typeface at Harry Potter Theme Park
Wizarding World of Harry Potter Sued over P22 Type Foundry Font: Cezanne Pro
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is facing a lawsuit over a stolen font. P22 Type Foundry is suing NBCUniversal, as well as the manufacturers of its souvenirs, for at least $1.5 million in damages.
The allegedly stolen font is Cezanne Pro. A license costs $69.95. One would thing, nay hope, that NBCUniversal's cash flow would allow it to pony up seventy bucks for a font, rather than hope (in vain, as it turned out) that the font's creators won't notice that a globally-famous theme park was selling swag that used Cezanne Pro.
There are thousands of free-to-use handwriting fonts out there; while they tend not to look as good as Cezanne Pro, it all comes out in the wash when considered alongside the somewhat naff merchandise on which it is placed. Maybe it literally comes out in the wash, who knows?
Just think... this could have been avoided had the Harry Potter theme park, located in Orlando, simply gone with Comic Sans.
That was a joke, by the way. Don't ever, ever use Comic Sans. Ever.
