Footloose Remake Loses Zac Efron, then Chace Crawford

The still-in-development remake of Footloose just lost another leading man. Chace Crawford, one of the stars of the CW's Gossip Girl, was slated to fill Kevin Bacon's dancin' shoes opposite DWTS ace Julianne Hough, but had to back out due to scheduling conflicts with the hit series. Kevin Bacon was in Flatliners with Kiefer Sutherland, who was in Twelve with Chace Crawford.

Kevin Bacon was in Balto with Bob Hoskins, who was in David Copperfield with Daniel Radcliffe, who was in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone with Julianne Hough.

Zac Efron Steps Out of Footloose

Footloose lost Zac Efron last summer when the High School Musical star dropped out of the project to pursue non-musical roles. Kevin Bacon was in JFK with Brian Doyle-Murray, who was in 17 Again with Zac Efron.

Footloose: A Conflict of Visions

Originally, the Footloose remake was to be directed by Kenny Ortega, who envisioned a full-on musical production. However, Paramount wanted it to look and feel more like a drama that featured dancing as part of the plot, and not as the core storytelling device.  Craig Brewer has been tapped to take over directing duties.

Paramount has pulled Footloose from its summer lineup, but production is still moving forward.

Brewer has proven himself before with two music-inclined small-town dramas (Hustle & Flow and Black Snake Moan), and I'm now significantly more interested in how this remake will turn out.

No word on a Hollow Man remake.

(With help from Find the Bacon, which is surprisingly accurate)
