Looks like the Charlatans are taking a page out of Radiohead's playbook by offering their new album for free--except this time you can't pay even if you want to.
We're talking about the actual band, the Charlatans, aka the Charlatans UK, who're offering their 10th album You Cross My Path as a free download over at XFM, as one zip or as individual tracks. Says frontman Tim Burgess, "We always knew this album was gonna be given away for free, even before we started writing so we wanted to make it the best album we've ever made. This isn't a case of left over tracks and b-sides, we wanted to give our fans a quality record." If this trend continues, illegal download sites are gonna go out of business. You Cross My Path will get also show up as a CD and 45 box set on 5/19 via Cooking Vinyl, for those of you who like to hold your music in your arms. If you want to know what it sounds like before you start downloading, watch videos for the first two singles here and here (we prefer the latter, in case you were wondering).

Eighteen eyes after of the Madchester movment, The Charlatans Uk, still brave to the style, which were one of the responsable to built, goes out on tour in europe to release your new album, "You Cross My Path", first one self-paid and tenth from the career, as Radiohead did, will offer the album for free by internet in March and fisicaly will be selling in May, for a while, only two songs are available online, "You Cross My Path" and "Oh Vanity".
Showing a unique sympathy with the fans (full of british people) and all the experience that they bring since the first single "Indian Hope", open the concert with the new single, and shows, that the next album will be more rock than the usual, not that after all these years they will change the style, but is clear that the guitars has more space on the sound. Following with "Weirdo", with the unmistakeable introduction on the keyboards. "The Only One I Know" is always a highlights in any Charlatans concert, doesn´t matter if the moment is good or bad, with that song and the video, they are shown to the world. "Can´t Get out of the Bed" from the acclaimed album "Up to Our Hips" was nice too, and couldn´t be out of the setlist "Tremelo Song", "Tellin Stories", "Love is The Key" and why not "Blackned Blue Eyes", as one of the last hit from Simpatico, and from that still played "City of the Dead" that has a reggae style. A setlist full of hits, that shows all the moments (good and bad, high and down), that is part of the history of them and all the way that they run during all these years, is not easy keep a fidelity to a style. In the end, "Sprostron Green" in a extended version, from the first album.
