Cheap Trick, in a strange bid for relevance, has turned to an unlikely source: the 8-track. By releasing their new album on 8-track, Cheap Trick hopes to go so far towards the obsolete that they come back around the other side to become totally now. The album, incidentally, is called The Latest.
If I stand in a certain spot, I kinda see their logic, and I hope it actually works.
Cheap Trick, your Truemorist salutes you.
The 8-track tape version costs $30 (it's available for pre-order) while the CD is going for $12.99 on Amazon. The record is $20 and the digital download is $8.99.
I hope 8-tracks make a comeback... even if it's just a hollowed-out plastic shell with an iPod glued inside.
A frequently asked question is "when did they stop making 8-tracks?" The answer is -- they didn't!

I keep reading everywhere that Gen X nostalgia is big, big, big. I wonder if they're tapping into the sentimental market. A brilliant, daring move. We'll see if it works. I'd buy the Grease 8 Track or Tom T. Hall. Big bro sent them to me while in the Marines - during the dreadful Iranian Hostage Crisis of the 80s. Based on that bit of nostalgia/memoir, I'm game!

There's nothing better than listening to Cheap Trick on an eight-track with the windows rolled up!

It was GenB or GenC at least.

Regardless of what medium, just buy this CD. Take it from a diehard CT fan since '79, it's the best thing they've done in over 20 years, easy!
